May 2010
Thanks to Lee Rodenbeck from AEP - Indiana Michigan Power for his talk at the April Meeting about the growing demand for electricity, what we can expect regarding costs. Also thank you to Jerry Clancy and Michelle Kerns from Fairmount Minerals for being Company of the month.
The merger of the Michiana & Northeast Indiana AFS Chapters to create a new Northern Indiana AFS Chapter was presented; along with the proposed slate of officers and board of directors for the new chapter. With fewer foundries in the region; the merger is a means of survival and the continuance of an AFS Chapter in our area. As we heard from Leo Baran, Membership Director of AFS, AFS is seeing the merger or closure of chapters.
The first event for the combined chapter will be the Northern Indiana AFS Chapter Golf outing on July 17th the Sprig-O-Mint Golf Course in Bremen Indiana. I encourage everyone who played or sponsored a hole in the former Northeast Indiana Golf Outing to continue their support of the new chapter and watch for more details coming soon.
There is a change to the schedule for the May meeting. The GM Assembly Plant in Fort Wayne is adding a third shift and will not be available for the Plant Tour. We have made arrangements to have the meeting at the Eagles Nest Event Center in Columbia City with Bill Sorensen, Executive Director, of the Foundry Education Foundation as our speaker. Please mark your calendar and plan to come to the May 17, 2010 chapter meeting and learn more about FEF and its value to the foundry industry.
Make sure to email or call your RSVP to Lance Agness at rsvp@afsnein.org, or via our website www.afsnein.org or at (260) 569-3776.
Don’t forget that on Saturday May 22, the FEF – Trine Golf Outing will be held at Zollner Golf Course, Trine University – Angola, IN.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
Thank you to all who come out and support the chapter.
